In October of 1962, the United States and the Soviet Union were on the brink of a full-scale nuclear war. Soviet missiles were found in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S., and what followed was a tense and traumatic series of decisions that were central to the Cold War and to the course of world history in the 60s.

In this activity, you will be a member of EXCOMM, the Executive Commitee of the national Security Council. As part of this group of advisors, you will need to discuss possible decisions and give your advice to President Kennedy in order to defuse the potentially grave situation. Your goals are to force the Soviet Union to withdraw missiles from Cuba, keep the American public peaceful and safe, and avoid a military conflict - one that could grow to global proportions.
